Riding just a bit

Went for a forty miler to the Des Moines River and back today (20 there and back). I threw the 32 X 17 back on and wanted to see how the steep hills around the river valley would be. Surprisingly, everything went well. I made it up out of the valley just fine. It was tough, yes, but not horrible. I fought the wind for the first 20 miles and it was good for me to have to push a bit as it wasn't easy. Of course, the ride home was a breeze. On a single speed I think it is even easier to ride the wind as you can't shift to make it harder. You just have to sit and spin and do a lot of coasting. I think I might throw on a 16 tooth cog now or move up to a 34 tooth ring. We will have to see.

Happy training.

Be thinking of my recovery as I am going in for snip snip surgeries on Friday! Hopefully I will be back on the bike soon! Any advice I will take it.

Paul, did you get an e-mail from the shop about those wheels? Just wondering since we hadn't gotten a response from you. Lighter wheels would probably make a difference on those hills.

As far as recovery from the surgery goes, keep a cold Fat Tire between your legs. When it's not cold anymore (or when its gone) replace it with another. Rinse and repeat.

Paul, that is the best advice ever! I will promise I will do that!

Matt, I didn't get your email, but that doesn't surprise me. I am sure the computer guy at school blocks every email to me coming through the system that has anything to do with biking. He has blocked any blogspot site. It will be mtbr next!

Can you send me the email to this address: thejacobsons@isunet.net

snip snip as in eliminating man-juice? Yikes. Actually, Paul V does have very good advice, especially since Iowa fat tires are 22 ounces, right? I had a quick recovery and was much older than you, so if my experience means anything, I think you will be "riding" again soon.

Yep. That is exactly what I mean. I like the 22 oz Fat Tire idea!

Tis a sad day. There needs to be more little Paulies on this planet.

When I got my snip-snip, I spent several days on the couch mastering Tiger Woods on the Playstation. Not one known to sit around, it was a couple of days of time well spent... albeit with an icepack between my legs.

So, reflector, how soon were you back on the bike?
