I don't know about you guys but,

I just don't know what is going on. For some reason, I just don't have much passion about riding. I was doing pretty good this past spring and summer and then..... nothing. I have been running, but I am not even jazzed about that. Work? Yeah that is going well, but am I ridiculously obsessed about it? No. I probably have more passion about paying off my debt than ever before. This economy business and the election sucks. What is wrong with our country when we are constantly being so negative. Don't we learn in elementary school to be respectful and to treat others the way we want to be treated? Where is the character in our leaders?

All I know is that I need to get out on the bike. Obviously!

Sounds like you need some mellow gravel travel or woods riding. I haven't been putting in any long rides or anything either. Mostly just commuting and utility riding.

Paul, I would bet that you do still have a passion for riding. I recently discovered that mine was waiting for me to dig it out and toss it around a little bit. My suggestion would be for you to go out and ride some miles solo, no mp3, no co-rider, no phone calls. Listen to the gravel crunch under your tires, look at the countryside, and let it come to you. It's still there, just trust. Later! Travel Gravel!

Get laid. Works everytime.

What this really looks like is that you are in between OCD hobbies. You should take up CC skiing this winter. Maybe that will fill the void.

Let's definitely meet Cory for a drink when he's back in the next few weeks.

Paul, I've been dealing with a bit of that lately as well. You have to take a break once in a while otherwise you will get burnt out. Between GRAID, TIv4, and all of the associated prep for it, I'm not surprised you're a little leery of the bike. I know that I'm going to need to work pretty hard to get two more metrics in this year for the COD. I'm already of the opinion that I'm not going to get 4 more imperial centuries in to cement myself a cup. Such is life. Once a hobby becomes work, it ceases to be fun, and I refuse to let that happen to cycling.

One thing that has helped me is doing trail maintenance rather than riding or racing so much. I still see all of my cycling friends, but I'm not riding as much, other than just to and from work days.

You'll get your love of the bike back soon enough, I'm sure. Like Joe and TG said, some mellow rides by yourself in the beautiful fall air and forests might do you some good. Don't ride fast, just cruise along and enjoy being in the moment.

Too true Paul. Passion is coasting here as well.

I have found that the quickest way to zap my passion is to organize an event or two, (like this year) Every biking opportunity turns into a work day, or course planning, or publicizing. Some guys can do it....
